5 Things to Know Before Your First CrossFit Class
You Don’t Need to Be “In Shape” First
This is the biggest misconception about CrossFit — and the one that keeps the most people from starting. You don’t need to run a mile, do a pull-up, or touch your toes before walking through our doors. Every single workout at CrossFit MYO is scaled to your current fitness level. That means whether you’re a former athlete or haven’t exercised in years, you’ll get a workout that challenges you without breaking you.
What to Wear (and What to Leave at Home)
Keep it simple:
- Athletic shoes — running shoes or cross-trainers work fine. No sandals, no Vans.
- Comfortable clothing — shorts, leggings, t-shirt. You’re going to sweat.
- Water bottle — we have a fountain, but bring your own.
- Leave your ego at the door — seriously, this is the most important one.
A Coach Is With You the Entire Time
Unlike a regular gym where you’re on your own, every CrossFit MYO class is coached from start to finish. Your coach will walk you through the warm-up, demonstrate every movement, correct your form, and help you scale the workout to your ability. You’re never guessing what to do next.
The Workout Is Only 60 Minutes
A typical class at CrossFit MYO follows this structure:
- Warm-Up (10 min) — Dynamic movements to prep your body
- Strength or Skill (15-20 min) — Focused work on a specific lift or movement
- Workout of the Day (WOD) (10-20 min) — The conditioning piece
- Cool Down (5 min) — Stretching and recovery
You’ll get more done in one hour with us than two hours wandering around a globo gym.
You’ll Probably Be Sore — And That’s Okay
After your first class, expect some soreness in muscles you didn’t know you had. This is normal and it fades as your body adapts. The key is to come back for your second class. Consistency beats intensity every single time.
