Weightlifting Track: Snatch and Clean Complexes Build Speed Under Fatigue

Sunday, August 16, 2026 | CrossFit MYO, San Jose CA

What Makes This Session Effective

This session prioritizes speed under fatigue through layered barbell complexes. You’ll move from power variations to full lifts without dropping the bar, forcing positional discipline when your legs get heavy. The front squat volume at 75 to 80 percent locks in leg strength for the catch. Rest intervals are tight — two minutes means you’re training recovery as much as technique. Show up sharp or the reps will expose every leak.

The Protocol

MovementSets & RepsTarget LoadFocus
2 Power Snatch + Hang Snatch2 setsHeavy singleKeep the bar close off the hip; don’t let it swing away on the second rep
Snatch + Hang Snatch4 setsHeavy singleHit the same receiving position on both reps — no starfishing the catch
Power Clean + Jerk + Hang Clean + Jerk2 setsHeavy singleDrive the jerk with legs, not arms; pause in the dip to feel tension
Clean + Hang Clean + Jerk4 setsHeavy singleStay over the bar longer on the hang clean; rhythm over rush
Front Squats4×575-80% 1RMElbows up, chest proud; fight the forward lean on every rep

FAQs

Q: How do I know when to stop adding weight on the Snatch?

A: Stop when your positions start breaking down — bar drifting forward, no overhead squat depth, or you’re catching in a soft position. A missed rep at 90% of your best tells you more than a grinder at 100%.

Q: Can I drop in just for the Weightlifting Track?

A: Yes. CrossFit MYO welcomes drop-ins. Check the schedule at cfmyo.com or book a free class to try a session first.

Q: How do I handle percentages if I don’t know my 1RM for Snatch?

A: Work with a load that feels challenging but lets you maintain good positions. Use your warm-up sets to calibrate. When in doubt, err lighter — your coach can help you find the right number during class.
